German train crash injures nearly 50

Nearly 50 people were injured when a regional train hit a car in eastern Germany.

Federal police spokesman Torsten Henkel said the train crashed into a car, which had been hit by another vehicle and pushed on to the tracks in Lauterbach, between Leipzig and Chemnitz.

He said that the driver of the car managed to get out before the accident, but the train was unable to stop in time.

Three of the train cars derailed and one tipped over on its side, seriously injuring nine people. Another 40 people received minor injuries.

Rescue crews tended people at the scene and helicopters flew the most seriously injured to local hospitals for treatment.

Thankfully there were no fatalities, however I wish a speedy recover to those who are seriously injured in hospital.

According to the article, the train was travelling at around 115km per hour and had no chance of stopping in time.

Very sad for the people involved, including the car driver; for once, it was not his fault.

But I do wish the media wouldn't call them 'train crashes'. A train was involved, certainly, but so was a car. Two cars even. So why not a car crash?
