German Eurostar Tickets

Thank you to all those who helped with my change at Brussels questions. I booked a London Special to Herford. My tickets were delivered by post from DB Bahn in the UK. Not quite what I was expecting. It seems like a printed itinerary of the seat reservations and a London Special ticket coupon. Nothing that looks like it might work the gates at the Eurostar platform. Please, any ideas?

The third one down is your travel ticket. You are right it will not work the barriers. Just go to the manual gate - you may even skip a few places in the queue? - you will have no worries.

SInce about 2 years the standard home-print DB tickets work with that QR (scrambled bar) code and at all €* stations there should be at least 1 barrier with a reader for them. You MUST have the card you used to pay/identify yourself with you, as the German conductors do a search with a secret code on them.

While Eurostar and DB both use Aztec (not QR) 2D barcodes on their tickets, I've never had a DB one work the Eurostar barriers - I have always had to use the manual checkin (which as reb0118 says can often be faster than the auto barriers). Though to be fair the last time I travelled on a London Spezial would have been 2012 so it may have changed since.

I had a London Spezial late last year, and the St Pancras optical scanner didn't recognise it. Staff didn't expect it to, either.

Just to let you know. My posted out London Special ticket was spotted before I got to the scanner. The Eurostar staff member said it was not a ticket only a reservation. I panicked a bit as it was all I had received. At the manual gate they just called my booking up on the computer. It then caused no problem getting on the Eurostar train or at tickets checks on German trains.
