Sad news of the death of Geoffrey Kichenside, who was the author of many railway books, including the very information "British Railway Signalling" which he co-authored with Alan Williams. He was also Editor of Railway World magazine.

Creator of Gorse Blossom Railway, a beloved Newton Abbot attraction, dies at 93

THE man behind a popular Newton Abbot attraction in the 80s and 90s has passed away at the age of 93.

He joined Ian Allan Publishing, which specialised in transport books.
Geoffrey become the editor of ‘Railway World’ , an English-based, monthly magazine covering rail transport across Great Britain.
And it wasn't long before Geoffrey himself put pen to paper, writing close to 20 books.
In the early 1970s, Geoffrey was headhunted by Newton Abbot-based publishers, David & Charles, to become editor for the company’s railway books, a role which he held for ten years.

I am old enough to recall his name, along with the likes of G Freeman Allen, his father Cecil J Allen, OS Nock (of course!) LTC Rolt, among others. Today I feel older still.

I have to admit to being surprised he was born in 1932. I had presumed he was much older and long deceased. One of the great names on my bookshelf and in my magazine collections, R.I.P.

Neither did I as I remember him from the late 60s/70s - but then was 93!
