Genova Metro extension

It appears the city is getting 6km of Metro including eight stations for the price of Headbolt Lane station in Merseyside.

Genova is a particularly difficult place to build a public transport infrastructure since any journey that doesn't parallel the coast depends on a fascinating but inevitably uncoordinated mixture of lifts, funiculars and zig-zag bus routes.

That was more or less the figure quoted. Admittedly including some double-tracking and rebuilding a bridge, but even then!

The £300m+ figure was for the Skelmersdale extension, not Headbolt Lane.

Correction accepted. Nevertheless that is only about 1 or 2km of new track, whereas Genova is getting for the same price, 6km of track and eight stations.

I know, it's insane how much things cost here. Building an elevated metro in a congested city should of course cost more than a flat field in Lancashire
