Genoa Bridge Question

Please could I ask the advice of this forum. I have a European rail trip planned for early next year. Part of the itinerary is Milan to Genova Piazza Principe (Return). I was just wondering if this journey will be diverted as result of the Genoa bridge collapse?

The bridge collapse was awful and tragic. I am not complaining about any delay. I might just rethink my connections.

I cannot find any information of Seat61 and Loco2 shows no problem with the itinerary.

PS. My full itinerary is Worcester to London to Munich to Venice to Genoa (cruise) Genoa to Paris to London to Worcester.

Given that a new timetable came into force a few days ago, I would be very surprised indeed if it did not incorporate any changes that are still needed.

Travelled in September Genova to Milan. The timetable was already adapted. Delays were not more than usual coming in 20 min. late. As a non regular passenger you will not notice it.

Thank you Loco2 are still showing the timings and trains I originally booked.As you say it must be factored in to the timetable.

My connections should be fine and hopefully no train replacement bus.

Hello Stephen. The Milano-Genova railway (Succursale line) do not pass under the Morandi Bridge. There were a lot of delays in the days around the accident, but now it is ok. You can suffer only some normal delays (traffic, other trains delays etc).

There are two lines between Genova and Milano. The old line (Giovi hystoric line) pass under the collapsed bridge, but it is used only by suburban trains to Arquata Scrivia and Acqui Terme. The new line (Succursale dei Giovi) do not pass under the bridge and this railway is used by long haul trains and Regional trains to Milano and Torino. This line is not involved in the collapse of the Morandi bridge.

During the days of the accident there were a lot of delays primarily because the main line (Succursale) was close due to works. According to plans, all the trains had to use the historical line, but this was interrupted by the collapse of the bridge, with the result of an almost total block.

We travelled under the bridge the week before it collapsed on a regional train to Torino. Was this the old line then? I noticed another line joined up with ours later down the line so is that then the new line?

Yes. In the week before the collaps the trains travelled on the old line due to works on the new line, near bivio Fegino I think. Works are correlated to the "Terzo Valico" another railway that will connect Genova to the Pianura Padana in the next years. The line that you noticed should be the new line, the Succursale dei Giovi. The point that you noticed should be the "Quadrivio Torbella", near Genova Rivarolo. Others point of joining are in Ronco Scrivia and Arquata Scriva, further from Genoa, on the Apennines.
