I see Genesis are playing Birmingham 20/21/22 Sept plenty of availability but at £135 a ticket on Ticketmaster that's hardly surprising........I think I will await the DVD of the concerts and pass.

Ah thanks, a much better website and the ability to search for tickets at much more affordable prices!

Who is Genesis these days? I went to see 10cc at Bristol a few years ago, and there was only Graham Gouldman from the original line up, and a video appearance from Kevin Godley on one song. Still fantastic, though.

If I’m not mistaken Paul Burgess is still (or was until recently) playing drums for 10cc - was always their touring drummer from mid seventies onwards, then became studio drummer also after Godley & Creme departed during late seventies. I do get your point though and especially so regarding Genesis!

Yes you are absolutely right about Paul Burgess. As the encore they do ‘Donna’ a capello, and at the end he ran off his drums to say Donna I love ’You’ in the deepest voice imaginable, compared with the falsetto of the rest of the song. Sorry to go OT about Genesis.

I bought my tickets from the venue, which whilst expensive, seemed to be the going rate.

Regarding the lineup, I'm expecting Phil Collins, Tony Banks and Mike Rutherford.

I would be surprised to see Steve or Peter turn up !

Sadly, due to health issues, Phil can no longer play the drums, and possibly has to sit down while singing too. That, plus the price (cheapest approx £140 in Glasgow) has put me off booking, so far.....

Yes, if I’m honest that pretty much sums up my feelings about attending one off these gigs too sadly. Only the other night I watched the Genesis Invisible Touch (Live at Wembley 1987) Laserdisc and it was stunning both musically and in sound quality, for me though I would now just prefer to remember or watch them when they were at the (arguably) peak of their career, although for all who have bought tickets for the upcoming concerts I really hope you have a great experience!

I understand one of Phil Collins’ sons is now playing drums at Genesis performances.

For those interested, I can recommend the Rockonteurs podcast presented by Gary Kemp and Guy Pratt. They interviewed Mike Rutherford in a recent episode and he talked about the tour. They have had lots of other guests that will appeal to rock fans of a certain age.

Well, us prog rock people are more relaxed about musicians performing sitting down than most.

I'm sure Phil will still belt out a tune or two.

Voices age inevitably and it must be a tough call for a musician to call it a day. That said, I saw Fleetwood Mac a couple of years ago (classic Rumours line up) and the three voices were still holding up well. It was an excellent concert.

The only thing that puts me off is that there potentially won't be enough prog.

Not wishing to be morbid, but I do wonder whether we could some day get a line up of Peter Gabriel, Steve Hackett, Mike Rutherford, Tony Banks and a Collins son...

Apart from the back problems, I've not seen anything to suggest Phil Collins isn't in as good health as the others. He always said that if Peter came back, he'd not want to be front of stage, but maybe they'd do a Phil one half and Peter the other one day.

The hits will always take precedence, but I agree, it would be nice to see a decent amount of the prog stuff, including the Trick of the Tail up to the Home by the Sea era.

While we talk about Phil Collins, this YouTube link is to one of his most iconic performances - maybe not his best as the bum note attests to, but certainly one I remember fondly even though I was only 10 at the time:

I'll bet that the price has gone up a bit.

I saw Genesis in a pub, the Oldfield Tavern in Greenford, ~1970. I think it was free! Full line-up. Phil Collins, Peter Gabriel, Mike Rutherford, about the time Nursery Crime was released.

Just seen this on the BBC news website with Mike and Phil talking a little about the upcoming tour, Phil does not look well.

Phil Collins is returning on tour with Genesis, despite ongoing health problems, including back problems following surgery.

The group has seen members come and go, and singer and drummer Phil Collins first announced his retirement almost 20 years ago, but when the BBC's media and arts correspondent, David Sillito went to meet them, they said they had got back together to have a chance to perform together and then ‘put it to bed'.

Very very sad. Phil looks like a frail old man these days.

He doesn't look well enough to do the interviews let alone a concert!

Mostly Glasgow-ish. Mostly.
I've been bought a ticket for their Oct 11th night at the O2. Reading stories like this make me less and less convinced Phil's got it in him to do multiple concerts, even if he is just sitting there in a chair for two hours per evening.

Lol, the wry/frustrated look on his face as he realises he's played a wrong note is a picture. Very human! A great performance nonetheless.

Phil Collins is a professional. If he didn't think he was up to it, he wouldn't do it.

The fact that he's booked on the tour suggests he's confident about it.
