My stepson would give his eye teeth for such an offer. In the last 5 years or so, starting from a gross pay of considerably less than £20,000pa, he has had a shift change from 4 to 5 days a week (an increase of 1 hour with no extra money), a £2,500pa pay CUT, and a couple of 1% rises.

This year's imposed changes include a 1% pay CUT, removal of days in lieu for any bank holidays worked and a reduction of sick pay from 6 to 3 months.

but that is part of the issue isn't it - that in some areas workers are so downtrodden and fearful and unrepresented that their employers extract the urine. The Conservatives then use those areas as a tool to drive everyone down to the lowest common level.

Sounds like he needs to get another job, has he ever thought about becoming a Junior Doctor or a train driver?

Or are you saying that because your Son is getting screwed over everyone else should be!

Though it is a mite late now, they could abandon their long-term sulk at the result in 2010, and try positive engagement with the Government of the UK. Since that election, their position has been "You are not <insert title of profession here> so you cannot understand what we do and cannot budge us".

Really? The BMA tried negotiating on behalf of the Junior Doctors. HMG basically held up two fingers, so the doctors voted in favour of industrial action. There were further negotiations (which were HMG really just trying to say the same thing in different words) so there was some industrial action. HMG then held up two fingers again and imposed its will on the Junior Doctors.

HMG doesn't want to work with Unions. It wants to destroy them.

No. Just pointing out what's happening in the real world away from junior doctoring and train driving!
