In the Dad's Army TV series and film. They were the names of the bank for which Mainwaring, Wilson and Pike worked. Therefore the precise answer should be Walmington-on-Sea.

Correct.

In the TV series, Mainwaring's Bank was always meant to be called Martins. The bank is mentioned by name in at least two early episodes. For some reason the BBC decided it would be "less confusing" to viewers if a fictitious bank name was adopted, hence "Swallow", sometimes "Swallow's bank".

However, in the feature film of the series, the bank was renamed from "Swallow" bank to "Martins", and a pub in Chalfont St Giles was used as the bank.

For the 2016 film the bank was once more known as 'Swallow Bank'.

Please open the bank and set the next question.

Martins still existed as a bank when Dad’s Army was first broadcast, but was taken over by Barclays in 1969. Possibly the BBC felt that even in a comedy series set nearly thirty years in the past using a genuine company name would be too much like advertising; the film companies were less likely to be worried (and maybe they felt that Swallows was ‘copyright’ the BBC).

Have you missed that you got it right and it is your turn to set the question?
Probably!

The original Dad's Army TV series and follow-on feature film were set in East Sussex, but filmed mainly in Norfolk. In which county was the recent re-make of the film - starring Toby Jones, Bill Nighy and Catherine Zeta-Jones filmed?
