Hanson White make cards, but I don't know who either of them are .....

Edit: Hanson must be the notorious asset stripper of the 80s, but I've no idea who White was.....

Lord Gordon White was Lord James Hanson's business partner. Hanson ran the UK half of the company, White ran the USA half. To be fair, they didn't do anything that anyone else wasn't doing at the time - and is still carried out to this day, albeit with usually a 12 month delay because of legal restrictions on asset disposal after a takeover. They simply had a higher profile than anyone else because the company was so successful.

The card business was their first venture, and had they not sold the name along with it, Hanson Trust ( later Hanson plc ) would have itself had the Hanson and White name.

That's right. Otherwise known as a By-the-wind Sailor, it's a type of hydrozoa related to the Portuguese Man O'War but without the nasty sting. They are a distinctive bright blue colour, and thousands of them are appearing on beaches across Wales.

A bank shot is a double in the UK

A push out in American pool can be played only on the shot immediately after the break and is essentially a sort of safety shot

English is the American word for side

Jump is a jump shot which is legal

Lag is the way of deciding who breaks in the first frame - both players hit the white up and down the table and nearest to the top cushion wins

Scratch is the white going in off
