Blimey, that was more of 'where wouldn't you think of' guess.

Apropos of the Spanish presence there, which word in that language could signify a military unit, a form of taxation, or a fraction?

Similar idea, different amounts.

It's tercio, but I think that's plenty close enough. Su turno, señor.
Thanks -- that's good of you. (Think I came across, and imperfectly remembered, the "military unit" bit: in an alternative-history novel where the Armada successfully lands.)

What is hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia? (Not a wind-up; the word really exists.)

Have been out all day and away from computer -- just back.

Love the various imaginative / comical answers; however, @Peterthegreat, as below, has the rights of it:
Fear of long words.

Taking a hint from the brain and fear in homo sapiens, I will venture a guess at something that does not affect me, a fear of using big words, such as the word in the clue of this conundrum.
By my understanding: not a fear of using them as such -- just a general and overall fear of long words, and of having anything to do with them.

@Peterthegreat : next one is yours to set -- whether in long words, short ones, or anything in between.
