Which football league winning manager, who is no longer alive, was sentenced to 3 years in prison for fraudulently transferring money from the mill he owned to the football club he was chairman of?

Edited to state that the individual concerned is not a living person.

A typical commuter-belt part of north-west England
It can be said that Cumbria still exists as a name for the joint and shared functions of Cumberland and Westmorland & Furness unitary districts. It is a bit of a lash-up and probably as complicated as Palmerston’s Schleswig-Holstein question.
OBSERVATION FROM MY UNDERSTANDING OF MATTERS
In 1971, Westmorland, Cumberland, the Sedbergh district of North Yorkshire and the Furness district of Lancashire were all subsumed into Cumbria
In 2023, Cumbria, except part of the Penrith area, was split into the two unitary district authorities of Westmorland and Furness and of Cumberland.

A similar matter occurred when Cheshire as a county was split into the two unitary district authorities of Cheshire East and Cheshire West & Chester

Which is correct as far as local government goes but cumbria police still exists so does this not mean that cumbria exists.
Obviously these things are never simple.
I am currently in Northampton but am I in Northamptonshire?

It is always great to see any question involving English counties descend into a debate over what constitutes a county, which historical borders should be used, etc.

For the avoidance of doubt, Gateshead is in County Durham and Middlesbrough is in Yorkshire.

Okay the answer is William Sudell.
Possibly a story that has now largely been forgotten in the mists of time. William Sudell, cotton mill manager, and former president/manager of Preston North End FC, which club won the Football League in both seasons 1888-89 and 1889-90, was indeed the person who was sentenced at Preston Sessions in April 1895 to three years' imprisonment for cheque embezzlement, having pleaded guilty to the charges against him. It's believed he used the money to fund players' wages and expenses at Preston North End. Subsequently emigrated to Cape Town, South Africa, following his release from prison.
