"Rival for the honour" -- or so I seem to recall hearing -- is Helmsley, some fifteen miles north-west of Malton.Malton is the one I was thinking of. I'm not aware of the local rival.
Thank you.To you to cook the next question.

What is the link between: re a particular country of the British Commonwealth -- a folk-song from same, known and loved by many; and the proprietary name of an alcoholic drink produced in same -- and (nothing to do with the Commonwealth country) one of King Charles II's rather numerous mistresses?
Mango?? -- wrong Commonwealth country, methinks.Mango
I think I've found it after much research therefore I can't participate in the quiz.A hint, perhaps: the "linking factor" -- broadly -- is a place-name: that of a town in -- in the first instance -- County Kerry.
Yes, that one is "only" one mile from the sea ( is it visible from the sea? ); it's not the one I have in mind but if nobody gets the correct one you're in pole position if I have to declare the question in due course.I was thinking of the Sir John Barrow monument on Hoad Hill at Ulverston....but that's much closer than 27 miles from the sea.

From the Glacier Express, I've seen one right in the middle of the Swiss Alps at the source of the River Rhine.Open floor?
Where would you find a lighthouse that is nowhere near the sea? ( As in it was built like that and not been relocated or anything. )
Was thinking whether any of the navigational lights (at locks) on The Manchester Ship Canal would count? There's a fake 36 foot high 'lighthouse' alongside the Bridgewater Canal at Monton, near Eccles in Greater Manchester, which was built around 20 years ago. Not a real lighthouse, mind you, it's more of a folly, but it's certainly nowhere near the seaside!

I may well accept it... ( although it doesn't look much different from the ones on the Shurguard self storage warehouses!I have to say if I was Mcr Warrior I would be wondering why my answer wasn't accepted.
