Hahahaha sorry everyone.

Should I tell?

Another clue is they were a big part of the rail road construction in the US and their most famous model is the Khaki, a field watch.

This beggars the question as to how much internet searching is really acceptable on this quiz, rather than knowledge gained and remembered over past years by thread contributors.

My attitude is that it is fine to check the spelling of an answer that you think you know, but no searching: it is already in your brain or it isn’t. Checking the spelling is acceptable and puts this on the level of a spoken quiz: nobody knows on TV if you don’t know how to spell Popocatepetl, but if that is your answer it is best to spell it correctly, even if you can’t.

Sometimes I will check a guess, and if wrong, don't have to embarass myself on the forum!

I will only use Internet searches if I don't know the answer and couldn't even make a rational guess. In that case I wouldn't take part in that question. I don't worry if anyone else has a different modus operandi as it isn't as if we are playing for anything other than the fun of taking part.

Not a character in "The Merchant of Venice" by William Shakespeare & possibly some other books by The Bard?

I don’t know the answer but having studied Preston North End for many years I am sure he refereed a cup final which involved PNE. So the answer has to have football in it I think. (Yes I mean soccer not American football!)
