A tool used in the wool trade.Thanks -- I'll pose one ...
Something which appears childishly rude; but is in fact, in that context, fully "clean" and unexceptionable --
What was a Teasing Willy?
Thank you but It was just a guess based on "Teasing".I declare, this Cooper bloke knows everything about everything... such a tool, indeed: it "carded" or pulled apart the wool to facilitate easier spinning.
Your turn, Honourable Weaving-Master, to come up with something else which will upset the Luddites ...
Correct, I chose the last two as they might be perceived as atypical of his works, a bit of misdirection..Hieronymus Bosch?? -- from the first-named: hadn't seen him as being into haywains or conjuring -- but maybe he occasionally took relaxing-time-off, from portraying the horrors of Hell?
So it's got red then ?I thought Mauritania - green and red horizontal stripes with a yellow / gold crescent and star
Thank-you. A bit lucky as I had just finished watching the athletics meeting in Stockholm with all the flags displayed!!Jamaica it is, indeed -- congrats !
Let's see what d'ya make 'a setting next question...
404 feet high,,,,and my birthtownSalisbury? -- open floor, if right: I've been hogging things lately.
404 feet high,,,,and my birthtown
Correct. You can aspire to be the next poser setter.Preston....St Walburge's Roman Catholic Church - situated in the fork of the Blackpool and West Coast Main lines about 3/4 mile North of the station.
That's the famous crooked one.Chesterfield?
So it's got red then ?
My mother used to demonstrate wool carding and spinning, but only every used hand cards (and a spinning wheel). I presume from your luddite comment that the teasing willy was a more mechanical contraption?I declare, this Cooper bloke knows everything about everything... such a tool, indeed: it "carded" or pulled apart the wool to facilitate easier spinning.

Info concerning the device with the saucy-sounding name: got by me from book by one of my favourite authors, John Lewis-Stemple -- writer, naturalist, and also farmer along organic / old-fashioned lines, in the lovely Herefordshire back of beyond, near the Welsh border. From his book The Sheep's Tale -- he keeps sheep, among other farming "lines" -- the book celebrates sheep-kind in general (including their wool and history of use thereof); and comes out in their defence, against the more rabid eco-warriors who tend toward extreme loathing, and extermination-desiring, of this particular farm animal, on the grounds of perceived over-grazing. He writes of 18th-century invention in Scotland, of devices which made "things wool-weaving" more efficient and more abundantly productive: the flying shuttle, the water-driven power-loom, and the wondrous Teasing Willy. My mother used to demonstrate wool carding and spinning, but only every used hand cards (and a spinning wheel). I presume from your luddite comment that the teasing willy was a more mechanical contraption?
Louisiana 1Hello All, we have a new quiz from Heinz57 for you all:
This is a General Knowledge quiz about anything and everything. The rules are simple: the person with the correct answer to the preceding question will post the next, and so on.... And remember, no Googling - that would be cheating!
The Quizmasters would also like people to make sure that questions are sensible and have a simple answer - so an answer like Italy or carrots or Mt Everest might be good, but a question like "What is the GDP of Egypt?" can only lead to headaches.
If a question is answered correctly and accepted by the question setter, but then no new question is set within one day (twenty-four hours) by the successful contestant, on expiry of this period, the floor will open for any member to set a new question.
So, here's the first question from Heinz57...
