Is the correct answer. Apparently, the bulky Sammy Newbound had crashed into the uprights and broken them (or himself!) hence the innovation, and some 80+ years on, the present day semi pro Hunslet RLFC are attempting to raise some much needed funds by asking modern day clubs to donate £10 in recognition of their predecessor club's invention (which unfortunately for the Parksiders, who disbanded in 1973, wasn't ever patented).Goal post pads/protection
