The Luftwaffe?
They were all types of radio equipment used on their planes?
Were they different versions of the German answer to our radar?
were they all Luftwaffe fighter Aces?
Planes?
Airlift operation names? Stalingrad etc?
Neither. Were they all shot down by the same Allied fighter pilot or did they all shoot down the same Allied fighter pilot?
Were they examples of nose art on the aircraft?
This practice was not unique to the UK and USA... and one of the items mentioned in an earlier post ( Ace of Spades ) sounds exactly like the sort of thing a pilot might have painted on his aircraft?
Are they nicknames or names of different fighter wings?
Got it. WW2 Luftwaffe Jagdgeschwadern.
Schlageter was the name given to Jagdgeschwader 26. Named after Albert Leo Schlageter, WW1 veteran and seen as a national hero by the Nazis for his participation in anti Bolshevik campaigns sabotage of French infrastructure in the occupied Ruhrland - for which he was elected by the French.
Grünherz was the name given to Jagdgeschwader 52. Named after its emblem of a green heart.
Pik-As was the name given to Jagdgeschwader 53. Named after its emblem of the aAce of Spades.
The joystick is yours.
yoyothehobo got it. Was your answer going to be similar?I confess that I have asked Mr W Pedia for his help with this, and he's given me what I think is the correct answer. However, I'll hold of saying what I think it is unless Spamcan81 is happy for me to do so.
Methinks it should be executed, rather than elected, by the French.
