Denali is the new/original/indigenous name for Mount McKinley which was recently adopted as its official name.

So my guess is they are the indigenous names for geographic features with more common colonial names. Although that doesn't make much sense for the Sahara.

I know this as my wife and I went on a cruise here and I have also flown there. It is the United States of America now (wasn't when filmed I dont think by a few months) in the state of Hawaii - specifically the island of Kauai .

Incorrect i am afraid. The filming for the movie was indeed done on Hawaii. But that is not the Canon location of the book/musical
