Correct. A girder framework was fitted over the bows of a merchant ship and an almost life-expired Hurricane was fired off it using rockets out when out of range of land-based protection. After the sortie the pilot had to either ditch in the sea (not a wise idea as the Hurricane had a large air scoop underneath) or bail out afterwards. Not a pleasant experience in the Atlantic and incredible on the Russian convoys. A quite extraordinary level of cold courage by the pilots, who volunteered.
