Did they finish towards the bottom of the medals table, with maybe just the one gold/silver/bronze medal apiece, respectively?

I have consulted Mr W Paedia, and it was Bermuda's first gold medal. However, it was Morocco's seventh and Puerto Rico's second gold medal.

Sticking with the theme of 1 gold medal, when was the last time team GB had a medal tally where only 1 gold was achieved over a Summer olympics? (Other medals where scored, but I'm looking only for golds in this question)

There was a twentieth-century author whose ambition was to become for Malaya / Malaysia (where he spent a fair number of years), what Conrad and Maugham were for other parts of south-east Asia, and Kipling for India. Our author seems not really to have achieved that ambition; but he he wrote and had published numerous novels on a variety of subjects, and is in the main very well-regarded by the cognoscenti. Who am I writing of, here?

Good thought; but not correct, I'm afraid. Author I'm thinking of, is generally reckoned rather more highbrow than Mr. Barber (meaning no offence to the latter gent; I've read a few of his books, and thought them thoroughly good stuff).
