Four historical battles -- a bit obscure, but hopefully not impossibly so: all took place well within the past couple of centuries. Please tell who was fighting against whom, in these engagements: "virtual bonus points" for any further info, including dates and whereabouts -- but "who versus whom" is all that is required, to score.

Both right. At Adowa (1896), the Ethiopians "kicked Italian ass", for the time being; at M-la-T (1870), Prussia sorta-kinda won -- it wasn't altogether clear.

Right continent, very broadly; but not the Indian sub-part thereof, and not involving Indians or 'Ghans.

Re Khalkhin-Gol: correct -- took place in Mongolia in 1939: culmination of on-and-off fighting -- a brief undeclared war -- between the Soviet Union and Japan, jockeying for territory. (After this bout, each side reckoned the other pretty formidable: when Japan entered World War II, and thereafter, she and the Soviet Union refrained from declaring war on each other: too much to contend with elsewhere !)

It was indeed Argentina, Brazil and Uruguay on one side: but not against the USA (who had plenty of bother of their own to deal with, at that approximate time). The enemy was much nearer home.

Correct. The War of the Triple Alliance, 1864 -- 70: per Wiki, "the deadliest and bloodiest inter-state war in Latin American history" -- Brazil / Argentina / Uruguay, versus Paraguay: which looks a bit like the bullies ganging-up on the lone weedy kid -- but Paraguay's then leader was, shall we say, eccentric; in the kind of way that Hitler was. Lomas Valentinas was towards the end of the war, in late 1868.
