Kingston upon Thames. The King's stone is by the bridge over the Hogsmill between The Guildhall and the Police station.

Indeed. According to Wikipaedia, Athelstan was certainly crowned in Kingston in 925, Edred in 946, Ethelred the Unready in 979. Other Kings believed to have been crowned here include Edward the Elder (900), Edmund (940), Edwy (955), and Edward (975).

Wasn't Edward the Confessor crowned in Winchester Cathedral in April 1043?

Apparently he was - apologies. So I am actually looking for 4 other locations, of which Kingston-upon-Thames, Bath and Winchester have been identified. One more to go.

Technically, it was the Old Minster at Winchester which is no longer there, and the modern day Winchester Cathedral is/was built partially on top of the footprint of the Old Minster.

Windsor Castle
Runnymede
Canterbury Cathedral
York Minster
Salisbury Cathedral
St Pauls Cathedral, London

Hang on, I said there were only 3 other sites.

But none of them are correct.
Believe that Edmund Ironside (sometimes known as Edmund II) was crowned at a previous pre-Norman version of St. Pauls Cathedral in late April 1016.

And that King Harthacnut (also known as Hardicanute) was crowned at Canterbury Cathedral in June 1040.

Another one. Believe that Harold Harefoot (Harold I) was crowned in Oxford in c. 1036. There was a re-enactment of this coronation and various other Oxford-related historical events at a Pageant held in 1907 at Magdalen College at which many thousands were in attendance.Harold Harefoot coronation.jpg

Reason for knowing was my office window a while back overlooked it. ;)

I found it very difficult to find where monarchs were crowned before 1066, and you have shown how bad my research was. You are right on both counts.

I cannot find a source to support this - I have seen a reference to Canterbury, but I couldnot find anything definitive.

Do we have all the correct answers in now (and a few more bonus ones for good measure)? ;)

I think so. I had Kingston, Gloucester and Bath, and you have supplied Winchester, St Pauls and Canterbury. I therefore declare you more capable of answering this question than me, and invite you to take the stage.

Thanks very much.

1 Where is the UK national cycle museum?
2 A great British cyclist who won many Tour de France stages lives not far from the museum, what is his name?
3 What cycling event is held on The Rake?
4 Taeve Schur won the Peace Race for the DDR, what did he do after retiring from cycle racing?
5 Why should the PotUS perhaps be called Joseph "Bidon"?
6 Who experienced" My nineteenth Tour de France"?
