I think I've been a little too obscure on this one and that there's less interest in the subject amongst members here than amongst other forums, so I'll offer the answer and let it go open floor.
Cobra's were helicopter gunships, first deployed in the Vietnam war, and the Loaches were light scout helicopters, again first deployed in the Vietnam war. The two types worked in two different teams; two cobra's working together were called a "red" team and the Loach and a Cobra working together with a Loach was known as a "pink" team, the Loach being "white" and the cobra being "red" giving pink.
The Loach flew around at low level and slow speed, scouting for targets and generally trying to get shot at, and then they got out of the way and let the cobra work the target with rockets and grenades and mini-guns. The Loach then flew back over the target to check the effectiveness of the cobra's attack.

The life expectancy of Loaches and their crew was limited, most Loaches were destroyed before they'd reached 500 hours flight time.
Hugh Mills was a scout pilot in Vietnam and wrote a book called "Low level hell" which is an eye opening read....

To do with the word "corny", applied to entertainment generally: as the Oxford Dictionary describes it -- "ridiculously or tiresomely old-fashioned or sentimental; trite" -- and I'd add, also referring to intended humour which is feeble and fails to be funny. According to the preferred explanation(s): how did this this particular word come to be used to describe this trait / tendency?
