Again another good guess but not him. Its is very unlikely any player will achieve this as this keeper made a deliberate career choice. Clue- its to do with where he played.
Surely he played in goal, that's no clue.

The legend in his own goalmouth that is Lutz Pfannenstiel has played professional football in every Fifa confederation.
His autobiography is right up there with the very best sports bios you will ever read.
You can enjoy such tales as the time he was locked up in one of the worlds most notorious jails in Singapore for alleged match fixing, the time he got drunk in NZ, took a penguin home to keep in his bath (soon discovered they smell & don't make good pets & was arrested when he took it to the zoo) & plenty more. In fact his exploits were so legendary in the part of NZ he played for a while the expression 'I got Pfannenstieled last night down the pub'entered the vernacular.
I know he was planning to play in a charity 5 a side in Antartica to say he had played in every continent but not sure if that ever came off.

Assuming these are the names of separate individuals and not the names of one person, are they alternative names of Popes?
(I confess that I'm not sure where Bill Bailey comes into it, though, which kind of defeats my claim ... but never mind!)

I like the idea of Pope Bill Bailey, sadly it's not the answer.
Perhaps a slight change to the question will help:

My other thought was that they might be other Christian names of members of our or other Royal Families, but it's equally as difficult to visualise a King Bill Bailey!
Not a totally fatuous suggestion: might they possibly be the names of sea areas in "whatever" parts of the planet? The North Atlantic Ocean has relatively shallow stretches called the Bill Bailey Bank, and the George Bligh Bank.
