I must be thinking about something totally different then because my research shows that the shuttle toilet for solids doesn't have any camera for centring yourself and its only the "Positional Trainer" that has the camera.

My research also shows the varying methods NASA has used over the years. Ewwww is all I c an say.

It was disconnected for various reasons, but Atlantis still carried hers right up until her final flight - I have that from a NASA official I know.

As you seem to know what it is, care to give the answer of what ACM stands for?

I think that you need to provide the source as none that I have seen have a camera and that it is only the Positional Trainer that has the CCTV.

If the onboard system had a camera then how would it see ? By sitting over the camera you block all the light you would also effectively defecate on the camera.

Funnily enough it wouldn't, there would be very little heat loss in the (near) vacuum of space, no conduction, no convection, just a little bit of radiation. There might be a danger of severe sunburn if you used the wrong window.

The boiling point of water in the vacuum of space is less than minus seventy degrees. If you did stick your bum out of the window, wouldn't your waste instaneously start to boil? That sounds like it could get messy.

No worse than an attack of the squitters and it would be outside the shuttle. I'd be more worried about klingons unless they have a bidet too.

Close enough for the win... Her maximum speed was 14 kts - she got the extra speed by turning off heating, hot water, some lights and tying down the safety valves so they would not pop off.
