Surely it's not as simple as "Robotics", is it?

It is indeed that simple. Runaround saw Asimov listing his Three Rules of Robotics for the first time. He assumed that the name for the science of robots was "robotics" (much like electronics, statistics), but didn't realise for a decade or so that nobody had used the word before.

(I learned this from the preface to a volume of Asimov's collected Robot stories, less than five minutes after Ark Royal had taken the open floor on Thursday evening!)
