Would that have anything to do with the fact that the County Palatine of Lancashire is held to be separate from other such bodies and royal lands and is managed by the Duchy of Lancaster whose titular head is HM The Queen?

Indeed it is good sir, but what is the oddity in relation to Bona Vacantia. As a hint the Dutchy of Cornwall has the same anomaly.
Is it that they are separate "countries" and have their own language ?

On reading this, noting that Lancashire is concerned, I always remember those shop signs in the rural Lancashire hinterland around the Trough of Bowland area hinterland that stated..."Lanky spoken here"...
It has been said that in the Blackburn to Burnley geographical belt that the vernacular language is Urdu.

I think it's something to do with unclaimed property not going to the same place it would in other parts of the country, trouble is I don't know the different places it would go although I presume one is the crown so perhaps the other is the treasury.

Bingo. Bona Vancantia is the Latin for 'ownerless goods.' In normal circumstances any estate declared would go to the treasury, under the county Palatine of Lancaster it goes to the Dutchy of Lancaster who as Paul_Sidorczuk identified is Brenda. Under the County Palatine of Cornwall they go to Brian as Dutchy of Cornwall.
Main other difference is the Treasury puts it towards normal taxation, Brenda and Brian donate the money to charity.
