I think that's a close enough guess. Back then "girl" meant child regardless of gender. A male child was a "knave girl" and a female child was a "gay girl". The word "boy" was used when referring to servants.

Well strictly speaking it doesn't have an 'army' - parts of the fire service and police are militarised though - in particular those who guard the Princes Palace. So maybe it's smaller than the main part of one of them. (open floor if answer accepted)

I assume that we are looking for a team based in the Midlands, that has appeared in both the North and the South Divisions of the former Third Division.

If YES: Notts County
If NO, or if not Notts County: ...hmm. (Their last top flight season was 1991-92 - i.e. the last of the old First Division.)

Among the clubs to have played in both the Prem and the former First Division, I can't find anyone who appears to match the criteria. (By "find" I mean looking at lists of clubs and then trying to workout which divisions they have played in.)

In theory it will probably be a team that is some way north of the A14, but some way south of the M62. But there are a few "nasties" in there.

If not for the Prem rule, I would have been tempted to say Grimsby Town (now in the Conference), who were a top flight team about 100 years ago and a half-decent force around the turn of the millennium but played in the first season of the Third Division (South) in spite of pobably being based too far north, owing to finishing bottom in the Second Division in 1919-20. Having said that though, said division wasn't actually called the Third Division (South) - it was just the Third Division at that time, until the (North) came along soon after.

Actually, thinking about it...

...Wolves? I don't think they ever played in the (South) though...

When my researches started looking at teams like Wimbledon, Watford then Luton Town, and even into the realms of Leicester City, without success, I just gave up.
