I know the team, it was Lanark.
Don't know the regiment though.

There are two parts to this question and your attempt to name the team was not the full name under which this team played its matches. The full name of the team will aid in the naming of the military unit.

If it is of any interest, there is still a team that play in Lanark called Lanark United FC who were not formed until 1920. Their stadium at Moor Park has a capacity of 4,000,,,but of course, this is not the team in question.

In that case I bet they had a number too, and that number is the number of the regiment.
Something like:
First Lanark (sounds like a new franchise)
and the First Lanarkshire Fusiliers.

That's as close as I'm going to get without resorting to google.

I'm sure the team was Third Lanark. Presumably the military unit would have been the Third Lanarkshire <something>. I'll try Fusiliers.

I knew that one well versed in the Cryptic Clues section of the Quiz Forum would triumph.

Just for the record, the military unit's full title was the Third Lanarkshire Rifle Volunteers.

Kindly set the next one, please.

I've found a copy of a quiz I compiled six years ago which had rounds with themed answers (spotting the theme made finding the answers easier), so switching things round:

What links the following?

The role played by Maurice Gosfield on TV
One of the two crewmen of Galasphere 347
A ship captained by Robert Fitzroy
A musical work containing the line "cover me in chocolate and throw me to the lesbians"

And I'm a fan of Round Britain Quiz on Radio 4 which has this type of question.

I would venture breeds of dogs, based on the first three...

Maurice Gosfield played Private Duane DOBERMAN in the Phil Silvers Show.....As an aside, he also did the voice of Benny the Ball in the animated cartoon "Top Cat" who featured the unfortunate Officer Dibble being outsmarted by Top Cat at every turn

The 1960's TV series Space Patrol had a crew member called HUSKY

Robert FitzRoy was the captain of HMS BEAGLE that carried Charles Darwin on his voyages.

I cannot answer the fourth clue...being unable to stop laughing when I saw the name of the verse....:D

You are correct, of course. The missing one is Jerry Springer: The Opera.

Continuing with very easy questions :

What is the name of the human-lilke inhabitants of the land of the Houyhnhnms, discovered by Captain Lemuel Gulliver in 1711?

I'll take the open floor.

In theatre, what is the name given to the stage configuration where the audience are on three sides of the action?
