Getting there - a bit more please. His eldest son. Was he called Robert?
Robert Curthose or Robert Duke of Normandy was what I was looking for. @Peterthegreat to reign please. His eldest son. Was he called Robert?
What was slightly unusual with this particular individual was that whilst he was William the Conqueror's eldest son, he didn't get to become King of England when William I died in 1087. Instead, Richard's younger brother William ('Rufus') was crowned. Richard Curthose instead became Duke of Normandy for a time. Think I'm right in saying that Robert Curthose is buried in Gloucester after being imprisoned for almost three decades, first in Devizes, and then in Cardiff.Robert Curthose or Robert Duke of Normandy was what I was looking for.

The answer is not a specific person.
You are almost there.I reckon it is either a song or an old poem. There is a narrative poem called just "the Highwayman" but I haven't the foggiest what his name was or who wrote it. "The Rape of the Lock" was my narrative poem for English exam purposes.....
A musket shot in the dark! You are almost there.
It is a poem by Alfred Noyes written at the beginning of the 20th century.
The person concerned was never named but just went under the name "The Highwayman".
Your turn to stand and deliver the next question.
