GEML Disruption (10/09)

Considerable disruption along the GEML this morning due to overhead wire issues and a train with a defective pantograph near Chelmsford. GA have implemented an emergency timetable for the rest of the day. Freight massively disrupted and diverting but not all entirely possible.

Looks like extensive repairs required to be done overnight.

1F04 had an ADD in the Brick House area and seems to have caused some damage

1F04 is actually a Liverpool Street to Witham service and fortunately so as was only carrying 10 passengers when the incident occurred. Other services in that direction would have been somewhat busier and in the opposite direction would have been very busy indeed.

I would imagine so as the passengers were taken away from it earlier today.

Lovely. Just incase anyone is wondering what ADD is, it's short for Auto Dropping Device which simply drops the pan after an over extention above the wires or if damage to part of the carbon contact in the pantograph has occurred.

I got mixed up with this yesterday. Lots of delays and cancellations.

It included an interesting experience at the start of my return journey. There clearly hadn't been a train for some time, the platforms were 3 deep including lots of children on delayed journeys home from school. The 10 car class 720 swallowed the passengers with room to spare, but, compared to a class 700, the congestion at and around the doors, and the dwell time, were dire.
