GCR Goods Galore Weekend May 12/13th

It should be a weekend with a difference at the GC - there will be 6 different goods trains in operation and the welcome return to traffic of the Standard 5 - 73156. This has had its wheels out and rods/pins re-machined, following the overheating problems last year when it was initially run.

There was a great atmosphere yesterday at Loughborough with activity all day. The Standard 5 was in use on passenger and freight turns. Unfortunately the Standard 2, 78018 suffered an overheated tender bearing ( unusual for a roller bearing, but it was first time out for the tender after overhaul I believe), so had to return to the shed for overnight attention. The Ivatt 2 came in as an alternative.
