Looks very impressive, you seem to be able to get a lot more for your money if you travel on GC first class, far superior to other operators.

I'm not a fan of this modern obsession with leather seats.

On the plus side, it does suggest their 125's will be with us for a little longer.

Well GC did state they would aim for a full class 180 fleet once IEP has replaced FGW's class 180's.
Perhaps now GC has a 10 year extension we will see their class 180's heading to Kilmarnock for a Internal refurb.

Purple, hmm. Are the 180 interiors more popular, even though they're more drab? Or is it that they aren't refurbing the 180s right now and they want a uniform fleet? Or soemthing else?

Indeed. The purple moquette always seems a bit out of place on their 180's.

Looks quite good. Regarding the 180s, they are starting to look seriously tired now and in need of a little refresh

Those look very nice, and it does pose interesting questioins for the future of the fleet, I wonder if we will see a similar standard class overhaul, and work on the 180's? Perhaps this signals big expansion plans after the 180's arrive? Or maybe its an insurance plan, just in case they done become available.

Paul Bigland (@Snapper) has posted some pictures of a refurbed GC HST first class carriage:

Looks very nice, hopefully the rest of the fleet will follow.

That is rather interesting, as First Great Westerns proposed HST First Class refurbishment has a few similar features including a carpet with what appears to be exactly the same almost retro pattern, and leather seats with a similar pattern in them - although FGWs were set to be brand new.

Find myself being rather surprised at the choice of Purple from Grand Central too! While being fairly smart, it does a little remind me of a Premier Inn.

That will be good! Just good they aren't DRS, who re-livered 47810, just to take it out of service a month later.

Have the refurbished carriages not been released for sometime? Surely the FC aficionados on this board didn’t miss this ;)

They look pretty good. I prefer the second class first class carriage on one of the rakes!

A drastic difference to the First Class carriage (standing in for a Standard Class one) I travelled in back in January 2010. Not seeing why they chose purple, but hey ho.

I suppose that a refurbishment wasn't a bad idea really to be fair, after all we're looking at what, possibly 3 or 4 years until the 180s can come off the Western? Might as well keep the HST fleet looking a bit tidier for the time being!

It's funny how the table lamps that were (I believe) introduced by Virgin West Coast still seem to be popular today!!
