I am curious to know why Grand Central Trains stable there empty stock at Pelaw Goods Loop twice a day at 1210 and 1710hrs. Is there a reason for this. Many thanks

The units don't stable, they need to vacate the platform at Sunderland prior to forming their next journey. Pelaw is the easiest place to run the trains ECS prior to swapping ends and returning to Sunderland. Some services also use Sunderland South Tunnel or Ryhope Grange Jn.

Pretty much.

You have to remember that they only arrive from Kings Cross around 45 minutes before they are due to depart again, but as there is a constant Metro service through Sunderland they need to be literally dumped somewhere.

Yeah I noticed on Real Time Trains there stood there for about 11 mins before leaving to return to Sunderland.

Many thanks

Ryhope Grange is used on Sat/Sun rather than Pelaw as timings are a bit tighter ! Ryhope was looked at as a permanent option in the past but the cost of having the sidings upgraded was ridiculous !!

I noticed the drivers tend to do quite an in-depth check of the carriages from the outside while they are stabled.
