GC Class 180 Details

Grand Central will have 5 class 180 DMU's by 1st January 2010.

105 and 112 have been with the company for a while now and 112 is painted and being used on the fourth path.

105 is still in unbranded FGW livery and currently doing testing and running in miles.

They have taken on the lease of 101, 107 and 114 for use on the new West Riding services to Bradford Interchange.

The last of these units will arrive on the 1st January 2010.

GC hope to have the new service started by Spring 2010.

It's good that they will have a broader range of 125mph capable stock.

Perhaps they should jump in now and order (directly or via ROSCO) a few of the Hitachi "Super Express" units. I doubt if Hitachi would have a problem with that.

I'm not trying to be pedantic old chap, but a 180 isn't a DEMU. Has a hydraulic transmission like sprinters.

iam travelling on 1342 sunderland to kings cross as we speak just pulling in to hartlepool in first class had a lovely trip sat also on 0757 kings cross to sunderland full of sunderland fans like me went to the match with me brother.

from what the traincrew were saying they were enjoying the 180s


any reason why the hsts have to run on one engine from sunderland to hartlepool?

they don't have to but it is like a 40 limit the whole durham coast so there is no point on 2 engines...

It also halves emissions when at Sunderland. If any of you have been there, you will know why. Also, you can always tell when a Grand Central service is due at Sunderland, it sounds like a jumbo jet taking off when the extractors go into warp mode.

Also, the speed limit varies on the Durham Coast and is as high as 60mph between Sunderland and Hartlepool.

sunderland station is awful due to it being underground, you can hear the engines outside in sunderland city centre
