Well for a short term charter, its certainly going to be cheaper than hiring in a 66 or whatever else.
Sounds plausible. Its not exactly going to be taxing either. 36 miles a day?!!!

I can confirm it is no joke. GB have also hired 47580.

Increase in buisness of late means not enough 66's to go around.

Sorry I do not as I am RD today. All I know is the 47 is due to depart MNR at about 1000 and travel via Trowse and the GEML.

Interesting stuff. Anyone care to point what the upsurge in work is that is necessitating such measures. Also is it a general trend across all the FOC's or are Gbrf just an isolated case?

Barking - Manchester Intermodal & Bow Olympic - Tyne Dock spoil have started in the last week. There are also a couple of GBRF 66's out of action.

Out of interest what is being transported to Tyne Dock from Bow? Any idea where it is going after that?

Not sure where it goes once it gets up North, put the load is spoil from the Olympic construction sites.

If it is going to Tyne Dock I can only assume it is going onto a ship for some reason. Seems quite silly to transport it all they way from down south, why not just take it to one of the ports nearby?

I assume it is by ship from the Thames to Tyne Dock, then by train to Blythe or somewhere for onward disposal. Congrats to the owners of RSG and the 47; earning a real living!

Nope, its by train from Bow to Tyne Dock.

I think you mean North Blyth and Lynemouth ;)

D9000 on the Alcan tanks??? Or aluminium ingots? Either way, that'll be a sight to behold! Will it also be in charge of the Alcan trip working down to Tyne Yard at about 2pm each day, or is that move still in the hands of DBS?

That certainly predates my memories of the all pervading “yellowness” of public transport in Tyne and Wear in the early nineties! I can remember the Atlanteans though, albeit towards the end of their lives. Chugging over the tops behind the quarry at Marsden on the way to South Shields, something which some of the modern single deck offerings now on the route sometimes struggle to do!
