Overview

TRAINEE TRAIN MANAGER OPPORTUNITY

We are currently recruiting for Trainee Train Managers in Crewe.

TRAINING PLANS

If successful you will be required to attend a comprehensive training and assessment programme lead by our Operations Standards and Training Department in Peterborough.

Applicants must be available to complete the classroom training without disruption for 12 weeks (this means no annual leave). These training courses are planned to commence in 2023, January onwards.

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA
  • Applicants should have successfully passed their train driver psychometric assessment within the past 5 years. If you have failed part of your assessment within the last 6 months, you will be unable to apply for this position on this occasion.
  • You must live in close proximity (within 60 minutes) of Crewe.
  • You must be over the age of 21 with a clean UK car drivers licence.
  • Pass a full TDLC railway medical ahead of the training course.

SALARY

The salary whilst training is £24,279 per annum. Training consists of 12 weeks in classroom followed by around 225 handling hours. Overall the training takes on average 10-12 months and you would be on the training salary throughout. Following completion of training and working the first productive turn, the salary increases to 80% of the full train drivers' rate, increasing to the full driver rate after 6 months.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

Whilst in classroom, you will be expected to work Monday-Friday and attend training at Peterborough. Lodging will be provided.

Once out of classroom, you will be required to work flexibly as per business requirements. The train driver position is a shift based role and as a freight business we operate 24/7. During training you will not have a fixed roster and may be lodged away as required to get your training completed.

CLOSING DATE

The closing date is Monday 28th November 2022

They are not every quick to respond to be honest! I applied for a Crewe position in January this year. They only got back in touch with me once I did my psychometrics with DB in June this year. When I said I was interested in the position and wanted an interview, they didn’t make contact with me again until after I had my interview with DB. I still wanted an interview with GBRf but they didn’t get back to me again until literally last week when I was already about to start my course with DB.

You can pass them independently but most people pass them on another job application to either a TOC or FOC. Railway Competence Group were a company that did them privately in Manchester, but I’m not sure they still do.
