I recently underwent psychometrics with a TOC and passed everything but got national standard on the group bourdon, as a result I didn’t finish their assessment day and do the MMI. I’m not sure if I can apply for this. Also I can’t resit until May but not sure if I can do the MMI before May because I didn’t do it. Anyone got any ideas?

Go for it! It says you have to have passed to the national standard within the last 5 years. Good luck

Unfortunately without passing everything you only have partial test passes. As GBRf apparently don’t send people for tests, as you’d need to attend a test centre you wouldn’t be able to apply. You would be able to apply for any of the Manchester TOCs, or the recent freightliner recruitment but it looks like full test passes only at GBRf.

GB will not spend the money on the testing, and given how many people in London will be in a talent pool with passed tests, it makes perfect sense.

That said, if you are applying for this just make sure you manage your expectations about who you are going to work for and what sort of treatment you will receive. Look for any parts of the contract that force you to stay for a certain period and what not as well.

I’d personally recommend avoiding this if you can, unless you’re desperate for a licence.

I think that last sentence is important.

I’d advise the opposite if the applicant wants to get in to train driving and it means a lot to them. I appreciate the terms etc aren’t great, but unless you’re very lucky, if you’re offered a place and turn it down, the likelihood of getting a position with another TOC or FOC is minimal.

That training wage is ridiculous and the extra “benefits“ are pretty poor!

It’s a captive audience though, so the training wage is irrelevant. There will be countless applicants who get less than that doing what they do now. It’s on a par with other TOCs and FOCs as the average seems to be between £20k and £30k.

Surely they’ll do an MMI? The TOC I did mine with said the MMI and DMI are separate to the psychometric testing. Hence you only loose one of your 2 chances if you fail the test(s) not the interviews.

MMI is part of the psychometric testing.

The MMI is part of the psychometric assessments, as has been said. TeLhe DMI however is not, and is done separately. That’s why there’s two interviews basically.

Is Peak Forest not near Buxton? So if that’s the depot then surely it’s an hour from the there?

Most companies seem to prefer an email. If you look on the jobs page, each vacancy usually has a person to email at the bottom. Worth a shot.

They were very keen to hear from me; I had an interview and then a phone call offering me the position subject to a medical, which I subsequently passed. I’m still awaiting my start date and have not heard a dicky bird from them since passing the medical……..draw your own conclusions from that…….

I’m not surprised at all by the things I have read on this forum alone. The HR teams and their practices at many of the rail companies are poor, especially at informing people of their status within the recruitment process or at least some form of update. They seem happy just to leave people in limbo which seems rather unfair after much work done to get that far.

I think I interviewed for the same position, early 2020 was it? Didn't hear back afterwards.

Not just me then! Not bothered now anyway as I commenced my driver training with my current employers back in September and am now in the process of accumulating my driving hours……..
