The pair of 20s on Day 3 have now been replaced by a pair of DRS 37s.
So from a 33, to 20’s to DRS 37’s. One can only hope they provide locos that can actually do the job this time unlike on the BLS tour

I was just thinking that the last DRS 37s I had were actually 66041 and 66066! Also 37s coming on at Carlisle I'm told.

No complaints from me!
I prefer it!
No complaints from me either! So long as they work that is

I think the only original part of the Day 3 itinerary left in the plan now is the 91, as the 60 to Carlisle was originally supposed to be day 4!

Makes sense for the 92 to give way at Carlisle, even if it means running onto the back.

Given the 69 didn’t manage to complete a loaded test run today, will that make the tour?

Maybe the 86 will just run up to Carlisle for the 37s to take over.

Don’t say that! I was hoping for a winner 92 to make up for the loss of the 33/20’s :D
Taking the 86 off at Crewe clearly makes sense as, assuming it is 86101, that is where it lives. If the 20s were originally being provided by LSL, then they might well have gone on the rear at Crewe.

There isn't much us to take the 92 off at Carlisle. The 37s could either come on the back at Crewe or Carlisle depending on where the working examples are currently. Presumably, the tour goes into Mossend behind the 92, the 92 is taken off and the 37s on the rear take it out via Carmyle. Not much point having 37s on the front if the tour departs southbound from Mossend.

If the 37s need to get to and from Carlisle then it'd possibly make sense to attach them to the rear of the overnight leg at Carlisle, and leave them attached to the train right up until Day 3 reaches Carlisle on Saturday evening.

Yes, that seems plausible.

This probably won't work, as the path between Mossend and Newcastle on day 3 is planned at 100mph.

Shouldn’t be too hard to find a light engine path for the 37s down from Mossend, plenty of loops between there and Carlisle. Nothing stopping them stabling at DRS’ Motherwell depot either.

Does anyone know the last time a Class 91 worked a tour?
If we exclude VTEC's Christmas charter in 2016 which used 91129 for a Newcastle - Kings Cross return trip with a mark 4 set, it was likely back in the 90s. I think 1991 rings a bell?

Probably mid-late 90s. Railtourer tended to use a 91 & Mk.4s on a charter to Edinburgh in the run-up to Christmas for a few years... I have one recorded as having run on 13/12/97.

Thanks. How about not on a Mk4 set?
