GBRF new locos

The order has been upgraded to 21 class 66's :-

This year Progress Rail subsidiary EMD will build 23 Class 66 locomotives before European emission regulations don't allow the production of these locos for use in Europe anymore. GBRf already confirmed an order for eight of the 23 locomotives in 2013, but it has now confirmed that it will acquire another 13 units. This order will raise the number of Class 66 locomotives in the GBRf fleet to 71.

Note that of the 23 Class 66 locomotives that EMD plans to build, only two locomotives are left now. This raises the question: why did GBRf didn't purchase the entire batch? And, where will the remaining two locos end up?

It's also interesting to note these locomotives have been purchased outright rather than leased. Which seems to be the continuing trend for GBRf at the moment.

The original plan was for Network Rail to take on some of the new 66's. They were to be leased to the FOCs on a rolling program when the FOCs own locos go in for ERTMS fitment. I don't know if this is still the case.

Port of Tyne have there new plans on the South Tyneside Planning website for the expansion to provide 2 unloading berths that will be rated at a toatl unloading rate of 3280 tonnes and hour , they are predicting of up to an extra 20 trains a day leaving the port , if anyone would like the link to the planning proposal , just let me know .

As far as the 92s are concerned I imagine it's a paper exercise only and no real money as changed hands.
