Many thanks Dan,

Is Doncaster - Retford or Doncaster - Gainsborough best for viewing DONCBELMD (69010)? And is EASTLGHYD the station yard, or the yard north of Eastleigh (69016)?

Cheers
Any train south from Doncaster will take you past Belmont yard, if facing south, Belmont yard is on your right hand side

Eastleigh yard is the London end of station. I saw a picture of it the other day stabled just under the road bridge just north of the station.

There's the occasional southbound train booked to go through the yard and over the flyover. Might offer a better view?

Including an LNER 91-hauled train, although at 05:32 from Doncaster the views won't be great at this time of the year.

Yes, from what I could see, there weren't any passenger trains scheduled to use the viaduct line in daylight. Hopefully, 69010 will be reactivated in April - will just have to wait and see ... Or take a trip over the viaduct sometime nearer the solstice.

Some LNER services towards King's Cross at Doncaster are booked off P4/8 during the day they then use the fly overs from Decoy Downside to get onto the Up side of the line and also any EMR to Lincoln to/from P5. They should all give a slower run past the yards for your viewing pleasure.

The only LNER that is booked to do this is 1A02 0500 Leeds-KGX. There are also two EMR services, these are 2K60 1934 Lincoln-Doncaster and 2K61 2052 Doncaster-Lincoln.

I only ever used the flyover once. A Leeds to KX service, that had a 47 on the front, used the freight line down the side of Doncaster station

Thanks for the correction. I'd had forgot about the most recent timetable changes. I was still thinking of last summers timetable.

I saw 69016 and 69014 in Eastleigh yard yesterday - thank-you for the gen. Both are towards the southern end of the yard, stabled among some 66s and 08s, a little north of the road bridge.

With 69010 not distinguishable from some other of its classmates other than by its number, which may be obscured by wagons etc, when passing, I think I'll leave it until it's re-energised, hopfully in April.

Thanks again

69014 in use shunting at Eastleigh Yard today - observed taking a train of bogie opens from East Yard to Virtual Quarry at about 1215 while 08683 stood spare. 69016 moved in the yard but was not observed actually shunting, but 08511 was. Using 69s does make sence as GBRf can then dispence with hired in 08s, but one does wonder about the fuel economy of this.

69006 and 69010 on 6E30 today
Thanks for the heads-up. Unfortunately it doesn't give me enough time to get to see it (69010) en route. But one day - and hopefully soon! Frustrating, as I checked on RTT to see if 69010 was allocated to anything earlier this morning, and drew a blank.

It's previously been suggested that the 69s are being stored until an uptick of work in April, or that they're going to be used as yard shunters, but here they are on a CE freight. Perhaps the thinking's changed for the 69s - although it could be that some are in storage until April, with others intended for use as yard shumters, with a few examples available for other duties? Time will tell.

The allocation for them appeared on rtt exactly as it left Whitemoor, from what ive seen 69009, 69006, 69010 are still active but most of the others have not moved or are not moving often, i was hoping the weed killers would have 69s on it but so far just 66s

The Doncaster / Toton to Whitemoor workings are both regularly 69-hauled.

Also keep an eye out for the 6L32 and 6E30 trains this week, they have had 69006 on every path so far this week and i would suspect will run for the rest of the week because 6L84 and 6E04 are not running this week

Although some of the 69s are not shown as moving on RTT or TOPS, some are being used for yard shunting, so are still actually active although not appearing on trains. (69014 & 69016 at Eastleigh and 69001 & 69005 at Willesden International Terminal for instance).

I know about this, i meant it as those 69s (other than 69010) have been pretty much on services every week day since 69s were starting to be stored.

69001, 69013 and 3 66s were on 6D79

I think for the first time this year the middleton towers to monk bretton/barnby dun flow has a class 69 on (69002)

...and continue to show pictures of 69012 in their advertising, describing the train as involving "a sought after GBRf Class 69", despite it not having worked since January.

28th is still quite a bit away, it is set to N meaning they could probably just move it 2 or so days before the railtour, although you never really know whats going to be on it until the day
