The Eurospec cab (752 to 779) is good for some things, but overall disliked. The German and Dutch ones are similar to the Eurospec. It's harder to reach the controls when shunting by handsignals and looking out the window i.e. squeezing up. The placement of some controls is better, but that doesn't make up for some of the flaws. I'll try and go through them;
- SEATS!!! The old seats are far better! The second man's seat is awful on the Euro's, just a little flap! Which is dreadful for assessors and mentors on a 12 hour shift. The main seat has less functionality as well; no rotation.
- The Eurospec power handle wears out. The notches get worn down and you can't tell 'by feel' what notch you're in. When this starts to happen, the loco registers notch 1 as a "between notches" option. You don't want that to happen when you're going between 7 and 8!
- There's no double notch for 8. just another regular ones on the Euro's.
- Shutting down loco's running in multi is done with a separate switch, which can cause problems if left in the off position.
- The directional selector is a poor design and bad quality (it comes off!!!), also the yellow light indication above it is too bright at night!
- The GOODS / PASS indication is no longer in the drivers eyeline.
