Hi all,

A few months back, I managed to catch GBRf liveried 92043 at London Euston, having brought in the one of the sleepers.
Going through my camera recently, I've noticed what appears to be bodyside cameras on the side of the locomotive.
Having looked online, they don't appear on any other Class 92, and weren't on the locomotive back in its triple grey days.

Would anyone happen to know what they're for/why only the one loco has them?

Thanks
Mat

This is a long shot: any chance they might want to use it on the continent? Some countries require cameras or mirrors.

That’s highly unlikely as 92043 is one of those with the Mark 5 sleeper mods.

Might it be a CAF mod for monitoring the new coaching stock while it was bedding in?

92043 also has roof mounted cameras for monitoring the pantographs when raised. I'm not sure if the side mounted ones are for the same purpose though or why they need to monitor its pantograph?

(eg pic) - you can see it just behind the door. Agreed that it won't be for DDO or similar!

Given that they're angled down and towards the middle of the loco, it won't be pantograph monitoring! The pantograph monitoring cameras are less for the actual pantograph and more for the actual overhead wires and their interaction with the pantograph.

Certainly looks like a bodyside camera for viewing the side of the train in a platform. Most modern DOO units have these cameras but it's the first time I've seen on one a locomotive.
