Whilst sorting out some BR Passenger Timetables for a fellow forum member , i came across these two issues for 1994/95 , different two tone covers and clearly stating Not For Sale - Staff Only issues .

Did they do Staff Only issues for other years , as i have never seen any ??

Yes,I had some,I think we had them issued for about 5 years. Just the thing for weighing you down with your fare manuals. Booking offices may have them longer. May still have some in the loft.
The later ones came in two parts.
The upside to being issued them was that I didn’t have to buy one for track bashing trips.

Think i might have shed a bit more light on things at the bottom of the box a 1992/93 also in two tone, no colour cover and again Not for Sale etc .

I still wonder for which years they did them as over the years i was just not aware .

Easy not to spot them as the spine is the same as the General Public issue

In the 1990s it was only the 1998/99 that was a two part issue , 1999 and 1999/2000 when back to one rather weight issue nearly 2500 pages

Well i can now confirm that the Staff Official monotone cover issues , went all the way to the 2007 Final Printed Issue .

So the new question is how far back into the 1980s/90s did they go .

I have a number of the Travel Agent Ticket Office 2 part issues from the early and mid 1980s , so the gap is 1986 to 1992/93

My guess is going to be 1990 onwards ?

I have a couple of these for 1995 and 1996 passed on by a friend whose father was a conductor.

Was there any difference between this and the public version, other than the cover?

One Friday evening in early December, I was having a pint with some fellow enthusiasts at Stalybridge buffet. I happened to mention that I was going to buy a TT at Man Picc on the way home. An off-duty guard at the next table overhead this, and had just been issued with his staff copy. He had no wish to carry it round, and offered to sell it to me for half the public price, so we both won. The contents were definitely the same, just a different cover.

1989 IIRC. I had/have the 1989/1990/1991 staff ones.

There were also A4 binder versions (which I also have) which may have preceded the publication of the combined staff GBTT, but I cannot say for absolute certainty.

We had these in the booking offices I trained in back in the 80s. One clerk only had the pages for popular routes in his. Tables 51 and 135 plus a couple of others IIRC.

Yes we had these in the booking offices/travel centres that I worked in. The normal issues were saleable and had a cash value, so distributing those copies needed for staff use with 'not for sale' copies was designed to discourage extra-curricular private enterprise...

I used to work on the railway timetables computer systems, so I've got a staff issue GBTT for October 1989-May 1990. Not very exciting, just a plain red cover and otherwise the same as the retail version.
