Just landed at Gatwick which is not familiar to me.

There was no queue for train tickets at the counters, so I asked for the "spilt fare" to Victoria, (I did not know where the split was at this point) and she told me she wasn't allowed to sell it me!

What a load of old cobblers and a waste of space.

If you want to buy a split ticket at a ticket office, you need to specify the split you want. There are potentially hundreds, if not thousands, of splits between Gatwick and London - how is a random member of staff supposed to be able to guess what to sell you.

They have to sell you the specific tickets you ask for. As you didn’t know where the split was, you couldn’t ask for specific tickets. What did you expect to happen?

Well, if you are going to approach a counter and be intentionally vague/difficult, what do you expect?

All you lot must work there as well, you must all have degrees in awkwardness?

I couldn't remember the split was at Croydon

The Trainline app doesn't give you "hundreds, if not thousands" of options it gives you one.

You could in theory split your ticket once at any station between Gatwick and Victoria. You could split at Norbury if you so fancied (and didn't mind changing at East Croydon onto a stopper).

Or you could split at Coulsdon South and Streatham Common.

Or you could split at Salfords, Selhurst and Balham.

Or....

You get my point - how is the staff member supposed to know which one?

To say nothing of there being lots of options for 'London'.
