Gatwick Airport - passenger loading displays?

Are displays on train platforms now showing passenger loadings in each carriage? On platform 4 at Gatwick Airport this morning the display showed a diagram of the soon to be arriving 8 coach Gatwick Express train with a number of horizontal lines inside each coach, varying from none to three. That indicated to me it was showing how busy each coach was, but there was no legend.

I can't speak specifically on the boards themselves, but loading data for Gatwick Express services has started to appear in the public Live Departure Boards API within the last few months so it'd make sense they're now looking to expose that data via the departure boards too. From your description, the board display sounds very similar to what is being used at Euston for Virgin Trains West Coast services - 'blocks' which are filled variously depending on how loaded each carriage is.

It's worth noting that the data may not be realtime/100% accurate - the TOC can supply whatever data they want for loading information and that could be from real time sensors, reservation data or historical loadings for that service.
