Just having barcode scanners on all gates at Marylebone would be lovely. At the moment half of the gates do, the other half just have Oyster/Contactless pads and passengers will often find themselves surprised when they get to a gate that isn’t equipped for their ticket and be forced to recirculate into the melee again. It makes a bad bottleneck worse and given the lack of space to do much else at Marylebone unless you want to start knocking walls down it seems bizarre that the gates aren’t all top notch.
Most of the gates on the Platform 1 and 2 side at Marylebone are the older "E1" variant. So old, in fact, that they have the Westinghouse Cubic logo on them rather than the Cubic Transportation Systems one!

Informed sources tell me that Cubic have come up with a solution to retrofit barcode scanners to the remaining E1 gates (not just for Chiltern, but other TOCs that still have them as well), but it relies on a specific variety of Raspberry Pi which is proving difficult to source.

Raspberry Pi were hit very hard by the craziness in the electronics industry. Things are improving but supply is still very much constrained right now.

A Raspberry Pi ?! There are 1000s of alternatives.

I don’t call it a “solution” if it depends on a part they can’t get hold of.

Same craziness at Moor st this morning, didn’t open up the gates, but commented to one of the guys manning the gates who suggested they will be getting more gates around October time, as you can see plenty of space for them…

The plans for that are linked upthread, essentially they will be doubling the available gateline by putting one set at 90 degrees to the other.

It's here: http://eplanning.idox.birmingham.go...s?identifier=Planning&reference=2022/02879/PA
And the document you need is the 2nd from bottom on the 2nd page,
BMS-CAP-00-00-DR-A-061003 PL01, this link may work direct: chrome-extension://efaidnbmnnnibpcajpcglclefindmkaj/http://eplanning.idox.birmingham.gov.uk/publisher/docs/A773D4A4B38073642AE05189E85B1793/Document-A773D4A4B38073642AE05189E85B1793.pdf

Existing gates in Black, new gates in Red. Railings at top are current Bay platforms, concourse to top right, Platform 2 at Bottom.

Nice to see some sort of proposal in place for more gates to be fitted.

any idea why they don’t just extend the gate line in a straight line, rather than the 90 degree angle?

Not a clue, there may be a mention of it in the application documentation if you go through it.

only bit I can find is …

“ the proposed gate line will integrate a currently underutilised area of the main concourse into the station’s functional layout, improving wayfinding and the overall passenger’s experience whilst opening areas previously not enjoyed by the public “
