Great price but curious how they divide the money or if TPE keep it all
Checked prices and cant see any advances for the Manchester to chester bit and is £16.70 by its self. If arriva wales don't feel it necessary to offer advances on that route how do transpenine undercut it?

As this is an Advance fare, I'm not too sure but I doubt it could go through ORCATS. I think I read somewhere that Advance fares are divided up by mileage?

Yes, Advance fares for longer journeys are very often cheaper than walk-up fares for shorter journeys, for which there are typically no Advances at all. This is all perfectly normal and occurs all over the National Rail network.

To give just one example, there are no Advance fares on TPE for York to Garforth (£13), yet I can get a cheap Advance to Manchester (£7.20)

I'm not sure what you're asking to be honest, but have I answered it above?

If ATW decide that they don't want people paying such cheap fares, they can of course put a block on them.

I know that doesn't quite add up just an idea
But hyperphetical if tpe decided to a 99% of advance fares Northern and Arriva wales would just have to grin and bear it?

It even works with journeys on one TOC. There are Leeds to Manchester and York to Manchester Advances, but no Garforth to Manchester ones.

Just for AP TPE ONLY ones, Garforth to the three Teesside stations might be one to look into, plus Northallerton if that's of interest. Preston to Habrough and Cleethorpes only are missing.

All of the Yorkshire TransPennine stations to Wigan don't have Advances which are probably quite viable, suspect this is just catching up from before there was a regular service at Wigan.

The rest depends on your ability to offer connections. More Advances from Harrogate would be useful, particularly for journeys to the Manchester area. South Yorkshire to Scarborough line is available as XC or VTEC and Connections. Journeys from the Midlands and Cheshire to the North East might be one for you to explore, e.g. Macclesfield, Wilmslow, Crewe and Stafford to Newcastle only have walk-up fares and via Manchester is often quickest. Stoke-on-Trent to Newcastle has only XC ONLY Advance fares, which it appears no booking engine will actually offer. Perhaps most glaring, the ScotRail Borders stations to Carlisle and points south have no TransPennine & Connections. I'm sure there are a few more here and there, and I've noticed others being fixed in recent past, e.g. Dewsbury to Hull.
