Gainsborough Lea Road

Passed through Gainsborough Lea Road this morning, and was surprised to see that the Doncaster/Retford bound platform has been shortened quite substantially, though the section that has been removed had been looking rickety for quite sometime. I'm guessing this is why it was done?

Does anyone know if the station is due for a proper makeover anytime soon? The shelters have been looking very dilapidated for quite sometime, and the burnt out signal box doesn't help the ambience. Some form of CIS system would also be nice, even if it is just the 'Help Point' style EMT have used at other unstaffed stations.

I can't see it getting any Tlc while Emt run it, it should go over to Northern. Never understood why CT had it to be honest either as the minority operator!

On a slightly related note, whats the deal with all the old track and platform on the retford side of gainsborough?

The main reason I ask is that EMT have refurbished a number of their stations recently, even Stamford - which they don't serve - has been fitted with CIS and repainted. There may be hope for Gainsborough yet...!
