Gaining Experience to pass MMI

I have decided that train driving is the career that I want to pursue, and I am confident that if I got to the assessment stage, the only real problem would be not having strong enough answers for the MMI.

I have started writing out potential answers to many possible MMI questions that I have seen on this forum. Although I have been able to give at least one answer for most of the questions, I feel that due to my age and limited experience I may be better off looking for a different job first, as I know I only have two attempts at the assessments.

I have subscribed to job alerts for all of the TOCs close enough to me for any jobs that may come up, and I currently have an application in with Northern for a trainee conductors job. As I know that patience is key and I need to carry on with my life whilst waiting, I am thinking about applying for a bus driving job.

I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on good ways to gain more experiences that translate to the train driving role?
And if anyone has previously been a bus driver? Did this stand you in good stead?

Personally I believe one of the keys to the MMI is life experience. A good variety of both your persona and working life should give you a nice range of answers.

I used to be a bus driver a good few years ago and I related to that for 2 of my answers.

You saying about age , I'm 21 and start training for train driver on 8th may . Don't think that age will stop them from hiring you In a way of experience i been a manager at reptile and aquatic store for 5 years of my life so that 100% helped toward answering the question you are referring too as had a whole range of answers but agree that MMI isn't just worked releted and personal fact come in to play
keep an eye out for jobs and still apply as you never know

Thanks for the advice. Yes I would agree, especially for questions such as Describe a time you have been in an emergency situation. I really cannot think of a strong answer for this one from a genuine emergency.

Would you recommend bus driving?

Wow, that's really very encouraging to hear! Well done and thanks for the advice. Do you happen to remember which questions you were asked? And would you say the MMI was the hardest part?

Volunteer at a youth organisation. It will give you plenty of experiences you can use in an MMI.
