Interesting (and a bit annoying). I was only thinking yesterday that the engineering work on the WAML seems like it's been going on for ever at weekends. What works are being done - I think I read the general "line upgrades" in the service alterations but wondered if anyone knew anything more specific?

Indeed, it's a rare Sunday that the Cambridge to Stratford service actually operates as such without any alterations! I know that there's been some work going on in the past few months with the junction between the Southbury loop and WAML at Cheshunt; also, the 121 bus in London was on diversion yesterday which points to something happening at the Enfield Lock level crossing.

Correct me if I am wrong but aren't they replacing the overhead masts and cables due them being years old, also upgrading the signalling for the switch front Bethnal Green to Romford

I'll have to read very carefully if I ever see a notice saying my 2014 train has been delayed until 2030. What if they mean years?!

GEML has had regular closures at weekends since at least 2003.

GEML passengers may get a bit of respite this year....

Passengers travelling on the Great Eastern Main Line (GEML), between Norwich, Ipswich, Colchester, Chelmsford and London, are set to benefit from better weekend rail services again in 2014. Abellio Greater Anglia and Network Rail have worked together to minimise the amount of planned disruptive weekend engineering work and need for bus replacement services over the next year. Under the improvement works schedule for 2014, there are only two Saturdays and six Sundays when travel on the Norwich to London main line is planned to be significantly affected by any replacement bus journeys.
